          Bio
West Virginia finally had an athletic budget to hire a football coach and the man President James Lincoln Goodknight settled on was former Princeton All-American end Thomas "Doggy" Trenchard, who was told he would get $100 per week for as long as the season lasted. Trenchard took advantage of the situation by scheduling 12 games (occasionally playing two different teams on the same day) and winning just three and tying two.
