Colorful Earle “Greasy” Neale was a successful professional baseball player, a successful collegiate football coach at Washington & Jefferson and later a successful coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in the professional ranks, but his three-year tenure at WVU resulted in more losses than victories. On the positive side, Neale was responsible for recruiting standout players Joe Stydahar and George “Eck” Allen to WVU. Neale is a member of the College Football and Professional Football halls of fame.
